1. Introduction
What is the functionality
Anchanto WMS already supports different packing workflows based on how warehouses operate. Many users today pack through the standard Web packing flow, where they review the order on screen, pack items, select packaging material, print documents, and complete packing through the existing process.
Continuous Scanning on Packing is a new enhancement in Anchanto WMS Web that adds another packing approach for warehouses that prefer a more scan-driven process.
With this enhancement, users can start packing by scanning the order and continue the process by scanning SKU / UPC / USN, packaging material, and shipping label with fewer manual clicks and interruptions. This makes the packing flow faster and smoother for operations that rely heavily on barcode scanning.
Who can use it
This enhancement is mainly useful for warehouse teams using the Web packing flow in Anchanto WMS, especially in operations where packers work in a scan-first manner.
It is applicable for:
- B2B
- B2C
- STO
- Flowthrough
Use cases
Support scan-first packing operations:
Allow packers to continue packing through scanning with fewer manual clicks, field changes, or screen navigation.
Improve speed at high-volume packing benches:
Help warehouses that process large order volumes move faster by reducing interruptions between packing steps.
Reduce manual intervention during packing:
Enable SKU scanning, packaging material scanning, and packing completion within one smoother flow on Web.
2. How it Works
Enablement and Configuration
Step 1: In the Admin Panel, enable Continuous Scanning on Packing.
- It is available in both the sections B2B and B2C. We can enable based on our use.
- B2C + Flow through will work when B2C setting is on.
- B2B + STO will work when B2B setting is on.
Step 2: At Warehouse level, enable Continuous Scanning under packing settings.
- It is available in both the sections B2B and B2C. We can enable based on our use.
Step 3: If needed, configure the setting further at Customer level for specific customers.
Step 4: If batch automation is required, enable Auto Batch & Expiry at Warehouse level under the Continuous Scanning setting.
Start Packing
Step 1: On Web, scan the order number on start packing UI to open the packing screen. or click on quality check button.
Step 2: Existing manual access options remain available, but the feature is designed to support scan-first entry.
Step 3: Once the screen opens, the user starts scanning SKUs directly.
Continuous Scanning Packing Flow
Step 1: Scan SKU / UPC / USN.
Step 2: System increments packed quantity automatically.
Step 3: Quantity will get update post scan the SKU.
Step 4: Cursor remains in the scan field for the next scan.
Step 5: If Auto Batch & Expiry is enabled, the system auto-selects the applicable batch and expiry using FIFO.
Step 6: When the current batch is exhausted, the system automatically moves to the next eligible batch and continues packing.
Cartonization and Packaging Material Scanning
Step 1: Scan inner or outer packaging material directly in the SKU scan field.
- Inner Packaging Material scanned
Step 2: System auto-creates a carton for the scanned SKUs.
Step 3: Inner packaging allows continued packaging scans within packaging context.
Step 4: Scanning outer packaging finalizes packing for the current scanned SKU set.
Step 5: Cursor moves back to the SKU scan field for the next items.
Document Printing and Packing Completion
Step 1: Once all SKUs are packed and cartonization is completed, the system handles document printing based on configuration.
Step 2: Shipping label, tax invoice, packing list, and carton label can be printed as configured.
Step 3: After printing, the system waits for either:
- AWB scan, or
- Packing Done action
Step 4: For multi-carton orders, packing completes only after the shipping label is scanned.
Step 5: If AWB is not scannable, packing is completed through Packing Done manually.
3. FAQs
Where is this feature available?
This enhancement is available in the Web packing flow of Anchanto WMS.
Is this a replacement for the existing packing flow?
No. This is an additional packing approach in Anchanto WMS. The existing packing flow remains available, while Continuous Scanning on Packing is meant for warehouses that prefer a more scan-driven process.
Which order types are supported?
This enhancement supports:
- B2B
- B2C
- STO
- Flowthrough
How do users start packing in this flow?
Users can start packing by scanning the order number directly from the grid or through the existing start-packing scan view on Web.
Can SKUs be scanned in any order?
Yes. SKUs can be scanned in any order, and packed quantity increases automatically on each valid scan.
Which codes can be scanned for item packing?
Users can scan:
- SKU
- UPC
- USN
What happens if an invalid code is scanned?
The system shows an error message and sound for invalid scans.
What happens if scanned quantity is more than the pending quantity?
The system prevents over-scan and shows an error message and sound if the scanned quantity exceeds the pending quantity.
Can packaging material be scanned in the same flow?
Yes. Packaging material can be scanned directly in the same scan field used during packing.
What types of packaging material are supported?
The system supports:
- Inner Packaging
- Outer Packaging
What happens when packaging material is scanned?
When packaging material is scanned, the system can automatically:
- create the carton
- select the packaging material
- calculate gross weight
- prepare the screen for the next step
What happens when outer packaging is scanned?
Scanning the outer packaging completes packing for the current set of scanned SKUs and returns the cursor to the scan field so the next scan can continue without interruption.
What is Auto Batch & Expiry?
Auto Batch & Expiry is a warehouse-level setting available under Continuous Scanning packing settings. When enabled, the system automatically selects batch and expiry using FIFO logic, so packing can continue without manual batch selection popups.
What happens if Auto Batch & Expiry is disabled?
If the same SKU exists in two or more eligible batches in a single order, the user must manually select the correct batch to continue packing.
Does this feature change existing packaging material or LPN logic?
No. Existing packaging material and LPN logic remain unchanged.
Can documents still be printed during packing?
Yes. Document printing continues based on the existing configuration and printing bench setup. This can include:
- shipping label
- tax invoice
- packing list
- carton label
How is packing completed in this flow?
Packing can be completed in either of these ways:
- by clicking Packing Done
- by scanning the shipping label AWB, if the shipping label contains a scannable AWB barcode
What if the shipping label does not have a scannable AWB barcode?
In that case, packing must be completed manually using Packing Done.
