Edit SKU ID and Governed Product Attributes in WMS Product Master
Updated
Overview
Product Master protects a SKU’s key details while the SKU is in active warehouse operations. You can edit SKU ID and the governed product attributes while a SKU is Unassigned. These fields become read-only once the SKU is assigned to an active Inbound, Outbound, Stock Take or Order Processing activity. They unlock automatically once the operation is completed. The same rules apply in the Product Master UI, the API and Bulk Upload, so product data stays consistent from order creation through dispatch

Go to Product Master → Open a SKU that is part of an active Inbound, Outbound, Stock Take or Order Processing activity → Governed attributes (SKU ID, UOM, UPC/EAN, Price details, Dimensions and Weight) appear as Read Only / Disabled, with the notification: “Product Update Restricted – This SKU is currently associated with an order undergoing warehouse processing. Product attributes cannot be modified until the applicable order processing is completed.”

Update Products Through the API or Bulk Upload
Step
Action
6
Go to the Product Create / Update API → Submit a request that changes SKU ID or another governed attribute → If the SKU is in an active operation, the request is rejected with an appropriate error.
7
Go to Product Master Bulk Upload → Upload your file → Each row is validated against the same rules. Rows for locked SKUs are rejected with a failure reason, and other valid rows are processed.
Important Notes & Limitations
Topic
What to know
Multiple active orders
If a SKU is linked to several orders, governed attributes stay locked while at least one applicable order is still in active processing.
Admin users
Operational restrictions apply to Admin users as well, unless explicitly configured otherwise.
Unknown operational status
If WMS can’t determine whether a SKU is in an active operation, the update is blocked and an appropriate error is returned.
Integrations
Product updates received from integrations are processed asynchronously and validated against the same rules.
Historical records
Product Master changes never modify historical order or transaction data.
Existing orders
Orders already in the system continue to process without any change in behaviour.
No on/off setting
This governance applies to every customer and can’t be enabled or disabled.
Not in scope
SKU ID generation logic, automatic creation of a new SKU to replace an ID change, marketplace-side SKU changes, and changes to the OMS product master.
Troubleshooting & Common Errors
If the system shows this error
Follow these steps to fix it
Product Update Restricted “This SKU is currently associated with an order undergoing warehouse processing. Product attributes cannot be modified until the applicable order processing is completed.”
Wait until all applicable Inbound, Outbound, Stock Take or Order Processing activities for the SKU are completed, then reopen the SKU and make your change. If the SKU is linked to several orders, every applicable order must finish processing first.
Governed fields are still disabled after operations finish (UOM only)
UOM follows its existing GRN rule and stays locked after GRN, even when the operation finishes.
API request rejected when changing a governed attribute
The SKU is in an active operation. Retry once all applicable operations are completed.
Bulk Upload row rejected with a failure reason
That row’s SKU is locked by an active operation. Other valid rows in the file are still processed. Re-upload the rejected rows once operations are completed.
