Overview
PrintNode connects Anchanto OXM to printers configured on your computer, letting you send shipping labels, packing documents, and other operational printouts directly from OXM. Because PrintNode maintains separate installers for Apple Silicon Macs, Intel-based Macs, and Windows, and PrintNode's own download service can't tell which type of Mac you're using. OXM provides three clearly labeled download options so you always get the version built for your device, including support for macOS Golden Gate on compatible Apple Silicon Mac's.
Prerequisites
- Access to Anchanto OXM and the PrintNode setup/download section.
- Knowledge of your computer's processor type (Apple Silicon or Intel) and current macOS or Windows version, see Step 1 below.
- A printer that is already installed and visible to your computer's operating system (PrintNode does not detect printers independently; see Important Notes).
- If planning to upgrade to macOS Golden Gate: your Mac model must be Apple Silicon and included in Apple's Golden Gate compatibility list.
- Role/permission requirements to access the OXM PrintNode setup section: Not covered in source, needs SME input.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Check Whether Your Mac Uses Apple Silicon or Intel
Go to the Apple menu (upper-left corner of your Mac) → Click About This Mac → find the field labelled "Chip" or "Processor."
Use the following rule:
| Information Displayed | Installer to Select |
|---|---|
| Apple M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, or another Apple chip | Mac: Apple Silicon |
| Intel processor | Mac: Intel |
| Windows 10 or Windows 11 | Windows |
If the processor cannot be confirmed, contact your IT administrator or Anchanto Support before installing PrintNode.
2. Install PrintNode on an Apple Silicon Mac
Go to Anchanto OXM → Sign in → your dashboard loads.
Go to the PrintNode setup or download section → the Printer Setup screen displays available download options.
Click Download for Mac: Apple Silicon → the .dmg installer file downloads.
Open the downloaded .dmg file → the PrintNode installer launches.
Move the PrintNode application to the Applications folder when prompted → PrintNode is installed.
Open PrintNode → Complete the required sign-in or configuration steps → PrintNode connects to your account.
Confirm that the required printer appears in PrintNode → the printer is listed and ready.
Complete a test print from OXM → Confirm that the document or label prints correctly.
3. Install PrintNode on an Intel-Based Mac
Open About This Mac → Confirm that the computer displays an Intel processor → processor type is confirmed.
Confirm that the Mac is running a supported macOS version up to Tahoe → macOS version is confirmed as supported.
Sign in to OXM → Go to the PrintNode setup or download section → Click Download for Mac: Intel → the Intel-compatible installer downloads.
Install and open the client → PrintNode is installed.
Confirm that the required printer is detected → the printer appears in PrintNode.
Complete a test print from OXM → confirm the document prints correctly.
⚠️ Do not select the Apple Silicon installer for an Intel-based Mac. Do not attempt to upgrade an Intel-based Mac to Golden Gate.
4. Upgrade an Apple Silicon Mac to macOS Golden Gate
For a computer used in live fulfilment, follow this sequence:
Confirm that the Mac uses Apple Silicon → processor type is confirmed.
Confirm that the Mac model is included in Apple's Golden Gate compatibility list → model eligibility is confirmed.
Record the current PrintNode version, macOS version, and printer model → baseline configuration is documented.
Confirm that the printer manufacturer supports the printer on Golden Gate → printer-driver compatibility is confirmed.
Install the approved Apple Silicon PrintNode Client, version 4.29.5 or later → PrintNode is updated.
Confirm that PrintNode starts and detects the printer → connection is verified.
Print a test label from OXM, before upgrading macOS → pre-upgrade test print is confirmed successful.
Upgrade the Mac to Golden Gate → macOS upgrade completes.
Open PrintNode → Confirm that it reconnects successfully → connection is restored.
Confirm that the printer remains visible → printer detection is confirmed post-upgrade.
Print another test label from OXM → Verify the document content, barcode readability, paper size, and orientation→ test print passes all checks.
Return the computer to live use only after all checks pass.
5. Validate Printing After Installation
Where possible, use a non-production order or an approved test document to confirm:
- PrintNode shows a connected status.
- The intended printer appears in PrintNode and in the operating system.
- A test page prints successfully outside OXM.
- A document sent from OXM reaches the correct printer.
- Label dimensions and orientation are correct.
- Text and barcodes are complete and readable.
- No unexpected duplicate is produced.
- An authorised reprint works as expected.
Important Notes & Limitations
- PrintNode version 4.29.0 and later for macOS is Apple Silicon-only.
- macOS Golden Gate does not support Intel-based Macs. Intel Mac users must remain on a supported macOS version up to Tahoe using the approved Intel PrintNode Client.
- M5 Macs do not require a separate installer, they use the same Apple Silicon installer as other supported M-series devices.
- The PrintNode download API does not automatically detect whether a Mac uses Intel or Apple Silicon select the correct download option in OXM yourself.
- Installing the Apple Silicon version on an Intel-based Mac may cause installation or compatibility problems.
- An Apple Silicon Mac running the older Intel client through Rosetta should move to the Apple Silicon PrintNode Client before upgrading to Golden Gate.
- PrintNode uses printers already configured in your operating system, it does not independently search your network for printers. A working PrintNode Client does not guarantee that every printer driver supports a newly released macOS version; check printer-driver compatibility before upgrading a production printing computer.
- Always complete a test print before and after a major operating-system upgrade.
- Do not use a QA, test-branded, or different-edition installer in a production environment.
- Do not upgrade all production printing stations at the same time validate one representative computer and printer combination first, and keep a supported fallback printing computer available during rollout.
- Windows customers using Windows 10 or Windows 11 are not affected by Apple's processor transition.
- Compatibility information can change always use the latest installer approved and provided by Anchanto.
Troubleshooting & Common Errors
| If the system shows this error | Follow these steps to fix it |
|---|---|
| Installer does not open | Confirm that the installer matches your Mac processor and was downloaded using the approved OXM link. |
| PrintNode opens but the printer is missing | Check whether the printer is installed and visible in macOS or Windows. |
| Printer is visible but nothing prints | Print a test page from the operating system and confirm the correct driver and printer model are selected. |
| Printing stopped after upgrading to Golden Gate | Confirm that PrintNode is the Apple Silicon version and that the printer manufacturer supports Golden Gate. |
| Label size or orientation is incorrect | Check the printer's default paper settings and the print settings in OXM. |
| Intel Mac cannot upgrade to Golden Gate | This is expected, Golden Gate does not support Intel-based Macs. |
| User is unsure which PrintNode version is installed | Open PrintNode and review its version information. |
| Network printer is not detected | Confirm that the network printer has been added to the computer running PrintNode. |
| PrintNode shows disconnected | Check the computer's internet connection and confirm the user has the required network permissions. |
